English-speaking IFS Therapy in Sweden
Feeling like the novelty of a new place (and a new you) has faded, leaving you face-to-face with familiar challenges?
Has the adventure of a new country unveiled unexpected struggles that you find yourself navigating alone?
Are you grappling with the delicate balance of adapting to your new country while staying connected to the roots that define you?
Big changes in our lives can bring up old issues we thought we had already processed. On top of that, feelings of being an outsider or not knowing your place can make it harder to deal with challenges that would normally not be an issue for you.
Cultural Adjustment
Exploring the nuances of a new culture can be both exciting and overwhelming. From social norms to daily routines, every aspect of life might feel different. This transition can trigger a range of emotions, from excitement to isolation.
Language Barriers
Adapting to a new language can be a daunting task. Misunderstandings may lead to parts of you feeling frustrated, making it harder for you to express yourself fully and connect with others.
Identity and Belonging
Finding your place in a new country and society can feel like a challenge and bring up questions around belonging and identity.
Emotional Rollercoaster
The emotional whirlwind of moving—joy, anxiety, homesickness—is a natural part of the process. However, navigating these feelings might be complex, especially without a strong support system.
How IFS Therapy Can Help
Get to Know Your Parts
IFS therapy provides a unique framework to explore the various facets of your identity. By understanding different parts of yourself, you can get a better understanding of how your cultural background has shaped you, and get in touch with the values and beliefs that you want to cherish.
Coping with Change
Through IFS, we'll work together to navigate the emotional landscape of change. Whether it's excitement, fear, or sadness, we’ll get to know and work with parts that are carrying strong emotions in a way that is safe and healing.
Navigating Cultural Shifts
Cultural adaptation involves understanding not just the external culture but your internal cultural shifts. IFS helps you make sense of these internal shifts that your parts have gone through, helping you to connect more deeply with yourself.
Effective Communication
Language barriers can be addressed through focused IFS sessions. By exploring the parts of you that might feel anxious or frustrated, we can work towards improving communication and expression.
Building Resilience
IFS is a powerful tool for building emotional resilience. As you face challenges, we'll identify and nurture your inner resources, empowering you to navigate your new environment with courage and calmness.
I'm a therapist based in Stockholm, and I work with English-speakers across Sweden and Europe. I moved abroad 16 years ago and since then I’ve lived in the UK, France, Sweden and a short time in South Africa. I’ve also spent a lot of time in East and West Africa.
I've faced the challenges of cultural adaptation myself, and bring a culturally sensitive approach to our sessions. Your cultural background is a vital part of our discussions.
All our sessions take place online, giving you the flexibility to access therapy from wherever you feel most comfortable
